Products

We install a number of products for security, smoke, fire and water protection.

The system may be programmed in many ways. For example, a motion detector could signal an alarm if it goes off by itself, but not if an entry door was just opened. In this case, when you enter the house you will have the opportunity to deactivate the alarm at the keypad, but someone entering through a window would active the alarm immediately.

Some sensors may cause the monitoring station to phone you, but take no other action (such as calling the police). This is often done for low-temperature sensors.

Most sensors cause the central monitoring station to call you to confirm that there is a problem, but we can have the system dispatch Police or Fire immediately in some cases.

  • Security
    • Motion Detectors
    • Motion detectors sense when there is motion in an area. They must have a fairly open view of the area to be protected. They are typically mounted in the corner of wall about 7 feet up. They can be used in conjunction with other devices, or by themselves. When arming a home system, motion detectors may be specified as part of the "Internal" alarms, and will not activate if you are walking around your home.
    • Glass Breakage Detector
    • These devices contain small microphones and are programmed to detect the sound of glass breaking. They can be used in conjunction with other devices, such as Contact switches on windows, or by themselves when it is not possible to attach such switches.
    • Contact Switches
    • These switches are attached to windows and doors to detect when they have been opened. Unlike contact switches of the past, the ones we use are less than a quarter of an inch wide and are almost invisible.
  • Smoke & Fire
    • Smoke & Fire Detectors
    • Smoke and fire detectors are the mainstay of a home protection system. We can sometimes se existing detectors or we can install a low-voltage system powered by central panel. These detectors should be replaced every ten years.
    • Carbon Monoxide Detector
    • Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that results from improper combustion. They are particularly important in homes that have gas heat. Carbon Monoxide is lighter than air, hence these are typically installed high on a wall in the upper floors of the home. These detectors should be replaced every five years.
    • Heat Sensor
    • Sometimes a combination smoke and fire detector can not be used, such as in unheated attics. In that case we can install a heat sensor that will activate when the temperature rises above a pre-defined threshold.
  • Other types of sensors
    • Low Temperature Sensor
    • These are often installed on each floor of the house. They are usually calibrated to activate when the temperature drops below 42 degrees. With these installed our customers can leave their homes know that if their furnace stops in the middle of the winter, they will find out before a pipe bursts.
    • Temperature Sensor
    • These are more sophisticated versions of the Low Temperature Sensor described above. These sensors have both high and low temperatures at which they can activiate and the trigger points are settable by the installer. These are often installed in wine cellars or commercial refrigeration units.
    • Water Detector
    • This sensor will active when water is present. We often install them in home laundry rooms, basements, and in air conditioner condensate pans.
